Chook n Boo Mum
This afternoon my friend arrived to collect notsolittle Mr White Back to go & live with her girlies........it's a bittersweet moment as I know he'll be a happy little chap once he gets over the shock of so much totty, but we'll miss him...our first home-bred baby to leave home He looked thoroughly bemused by the unceremonious way he was put into the cat box......their chooks aren't pets, they are there to lay & hopefully produce next years new flock......his life could be short but busy I'll post a pic once DH uploads them onto the computer. Chicken Shirl
Just picked up this thread. Sorry you have had to part with your cockerel. I know just how you feel. He will be as happy as a sand boy with all those girls. Hope your getting over it Sha. xx You will be able to go and see him. The sad thing is they don't remember you after just a few days. I was gutted, after all the love I bestowed on the little men we had this year. Keep smiling there will be loads more coming along
Chook n Boo Mum
Yes, I think I have one in the Pekin Pen Berry is not showing any signs of becoming any more feminine...though not much more masculine either ..I'm not even sure if s/he's making strangulated sounds or I'm just hearing things.........I've got to arrange another visit to the breeder as decided a fortnight ago.......oh the joys of having youngsters who grow up Sha x
Chook n Boo Mum
Had an update today..he's apparently very wary of what will be "his" girls at the mo, hopefully he'll get more confident once the two "big" boys are dispatched over the weekend. The new owners were very surprised at how white he is..........makes all the others look dirty Sha x

Chook n Boo Mum
I have to say that all 3 of them have always been pure "Daz white"......except when Yellow Legs got olive oil all over his side & then proceeded to have a dustbath..........cue one very grubby boy for a few weeks They make Snowdrop look decidedly off-white !! Chook n Boo Mum
It does sound a bit bizarre doesn't it ..........I left a jar of OO in their run when I was nursing their mum through her first impacted crop bout & obviously didn't tighten the lid.....one of them must have knocked it over & Mr Yellow Legs was next to the "bucket table" which the jar was sitting on and leaking all over, so covering one side of the little chap's wing feathers...he did look a sight after his compost dustbath I didn't bath him as the weather wasn't overly warm at the time & it eventually grew out/wiped off Sha x
