Fur 'n' Feathers

We've just booked....Our holiday in Switzerland!!!

Recommended Posts

Just had to celebrate  After much umming & ahhing, we've decided on our special holiday next year to celebrate Fur's 6oth birthday & our Silver Wedding Anniversary.

We're going on a luxury coach trip to Switzerland on which we can indulge in our railway interest with 3 railway journeys, plus a lake cruise. Half board in a lovely hotel.

Can't wait :D We're going in the summertime so all the flowers will be out. 8):P

We've booked the best seats on the coach for a small extra payment too! :D

You will have a wonderful time. We have been on 2 walking holidays there, in the Engadine & Goms valleys which are stunning. We also went on the glacier express (I took a good book thinking train journey - boring- but it never came out of the bag). The train has a glass roof so you can see all of the peaks. We went in springtime so all of the flowers were just coming out.

Do not underestimate Swiss efficiency - it is not a fallacy. Our plane was delayed by an hour and we had resigned ourselves to missing our train which was due to leave only 30 mins after we landed. By the time we got off the plane all of the bags were out and we made the train with 10 minutes to spare! There are also luggage trolleys at Zurich that go up the escalators!

On the way back we had to get from quite a remote valley to St Moritz to catch the train. We asked at the hotel could we book a taxi so that we could make sure that we didn't miss it and they looked at us aghast saying that we must just catch the bus as the train would wait for it if it was delayed!!!

Swiss people are also very friendly, where we were anyway- I'm sure somewhere like Zurich must be like any other city (but more efficient)

All these posts make it sound even more wonderful!

We're actually going by coach, stopping off in Reims overnight each way. The great thing is that the coach picks up quite near us in the middle of the day, being so near the channel. No hiking over to Gatwick Airport (or worse) and our luggage we presume will be with us all the way!

We're staying at Meiringen (apparently where meringues come from!). The Reichebnbach Falls are within walking distance and visible from the hotel. Apparently, this is where Sherlock Holmes met his end at the hands of Moriarty  . Will now have to read the novel as only know the Hound of the Baskervilles :lol:
