Clur
I've just called my car insurance as the renewal quote they gave me was £453 in comparison to one I had for £207 from a compare the market type site. Would you believe my insurance company was prepared to drop the price to match - lots of special offers on apparently!

Would you believe my insurance company was prepared to drop the price to match - lots of special offers on apparently! We used compare the market for our house insurance & got it for half the amount our insurance was quoting. Apparently it's down to how many other people insure in your area which can affect the risk rate
chelsea
You were lucky - well done. I did not have so much luck with Zurich last year, I had been with them for over 10 years with my car insurance and when I managed to half my premium with Swiftcover.com they would not match the quote and were prepared to let me go which I think is a shame in this current climate. Reikiranf
I ended up staying with my current company when my insurance needed renewing, although I could get a slightly cheaper premium the excess was unbelievably high with some companies the worst being 6 times my current one It's not as if I'm high risk either, I've been driving for over 20 years, I'm over 40, have a clean licence, over 14 years no claims discount and the car's parked in the drive overnight. I've come to the conclusion that all insurance companies be it car or home are fleecing us law abiding citizens in the hope of clawing back some of the money they've paid out in recent years. Rant over & breathe ps if using comparison sites be very careful as the cheap quotes often don't include things like legal cover etc & when you add on the things you need they often aren't as cheap as they seemed at first. Happy chickens!
Wow - well negotiated. I always try that if I get a cheaper quote, as usually easier to stay put, but have never managed to beat them down that low, please let us know what you said!! Reikiranf
My Aussie friend is a Chiropractor & when he phoned for a quote they wanted nearly £500, so he told them he'd had a quote for £286 from another company & they offered him insurance for £275 The funny thing was that he hadn't even had another quote, he made it up

chickenanne
My car insurance doubled this time around. No accidents, same car, registered at same address, still fully comp, same named drivers (with no change in tehir circumstances). But still, the cost more than doubled. And I wasn't even cross.... The year before they'd made an error with the price but offered to stand by it - so this year it went from £52 to £108.

There is a reason Swiftcover are so cheap! I learnt to my cost when my car was hit by another and I claimed off the other drivers insurance. I ended up on first name terms with the Swiftcover managing director Needless to say when my insurance came up for renewal despite Swiftcover being the cheapest I've always since paid extra to go elsewhere. It's worth it!
