Wussy cockeral.....

Recommended Posts

My young cockeral (who will probably be going to live with my friend on her farm eventually) still hasn't begun to crow and has only just got his full 'grown up boy' feathering in the last few weeks, I believe he is about 4 - 5 months old.

But he seems to be being kept in his place by my girls who peck him and chase him off any food! I would have thought it would have been the other way around? Even the girl the same age and is half his size tells him off!

Is this normal for a young male or is he just particularly wussy (I don't care as he's totally lovely)?

My baby boys (both about 20 weeks old) are both wusses too..........Yellow Legs the Light Sussex parades around the garden with his sister, avoiding all the big girls...and Berry the Mille Fleurs Pekin spends his life ducking out of the way of the 4 Pekin girls and Jasmine & the Ara x.....mind you I'd duck if Jasmine walked towards me, she's a madam, not helped by the fact that she's bigger then the Pekins

As an aside, Jasmine decided to launch herself off the roof of the (pink eglu) run this morning, then realised the error of her ways as she hit the ground & saw all the big girls looking at her  .....she tried valiantly to get herself through the holes in the orange fencing with no success, then had to endure a thorough cuddling from me....just how much degradation can a girl deal with in one day :lol: ?! She was a little subdued when she went back in the Pekin run................ :anxious:

Ahh glad he's not too unusual! :D He really is a wussy though - he even waits in the nest box till the girls have exited the cube it the morning (ladies first!). He did boot my big Pepperpot Nancy, off the perch earlier much to her indignation but he lived to regret is as after she had recovered her composure she hopped back up and gave him a right telling off.

My cockerels always put the ladies 1st before themselves. Such gentlemen! They will allow the girls to peck any food off their beaks, groom them, pluck any stray feathers, peck them & get the best bedtime space! They are all ruled by the girls!

They are excellent at protecting their girls though - they stop them wandering out the garden & round them all up at bedtime. Sweet.

My biggest wuss is ' Boon' - the partridge cochin cockerel. He is so lazy & such a gentle giant. I love him to bits.

My Stan is a bg wuss too, he was threatened with the pot as he wouldnt fill out or start doing his job

Hormones are beginnng to kck in now and he has started crowing at least but he isnt out of the woods yet, we have three young cockerels more manly than Stan and one of those may get to stay to run the pen if Stan doesnt pick up the game
