Olly
My eglu and chickens are due to arrive in about four weeks, and as my lawn is very wet I want to prepare a chippings area for them. I've read very positive things about Hemcore (and Auboise) - can anyone suggest a supplier in North London/Essex/Herts? I've tried the Hemcore website, and they all seem to be quite a way away. I'm near Epping Forest, where there are lots of riding stables, but I'm struggling to find a supplier - can anyone advise? Failing this, I want to use woodchippings, again can anyone suggest or recommend a source? I've had trial access to the forum and it's been a fantastic source of encouragement to me in going for the eglu, as most of my friends think I am mad - so if there's anyone out there in Woodford/Buckhurst Hill area, please get in touch! Thanks
chelsea
welcome to the forum! You will be so pleased with the eglu and chickens - the eglu is fantastic! and is easy to keep clean. chickens will suprise you with how entertaining they are, you will be hooked. I praise hemcore/aubiose so much that I feel I should be their international ambassador we really couldnt do without it. Our eglu is surrounded by bark chippings (for us to walk on when accessing the eglu) but I dont have chippings in the run. I completely cover the run in hemcore/aubiose. It soaks up the wet, I have no smells, and the poo just seems to disappear . I take off the top layer on eglu cleaning day and replace with fresh. and once a month we remove the whole run of hemcore/aubiose and replace. We get ours from our local farms suppliers....but you could try horsey type shops or large pet shops. failing that I think I would check the yellow pages for "farm supplies" and maybe go from there. Let us know when your eglu comes. its so exciting. A great friendly bunch on here Edited January 13, 2007 by Guest

bronze
Is there any difference between Auboise and hemcore or are they just brand names. I'm thinking I may steal your idea of it in the run with chips around.
Egluntyne
Very similar. Hemcore smells of Citronella and is slightly chunkier, but essentially, they are the same.
Olly
Thank you so much, I knew someone would reply but didn't expect so many responses so quickly! I am very excited (and a little nervous) about getting my girls, and want to get prepared. I've emailed Auboise, and if I do find a local supplier then I'll post a response - I have been looking under 'animals' rather than 'farm' in Yellow Pages, so I'll give that a try. Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to participating in the forum more fully when I'm a genuine Eglu Owner. 26 days (not that I'm counting)
kannie
Hi Olly! My OH got our hemcore from an animal supplies warehouse in Wheathamstead, which I believe is near St Albans, in Hertfordshire. Is that any good?
kannie
Ah! Found them - here's a link: http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk/index.asp (It's in the horse bedding section on their website)
Olly
Thank you to all the kind people who posted replies, I don't think I would ever have ventured into chickens without this website! thanks for the G W Titmuss link Janine, I may still pay them a visit, but haven't had time to get over there. In fact I had to resort to B&Q bark chippings in order to have the run ready for when the girls arrived. However, I have today collected a bale of auboise from Crown Corner Country Store, Kelvedon Hatch, near Brentwood in Essex CM14 5TB 01277 372 744 They also had Hemcore in stock, although every time I have phoned round wholesalers I hear that there is a supply problem with Hemcore. I am looking forward to using the auboise as it has such positive reviews on the forum! thank you all for being so welcoming and encouraging
