ChrisEllis
Hi, Im sure this is the right place to post - i currently have chickens but am getting ducks - i would much love to build a 150cm x 150cm pond (roughly) and i want it to be literally as if it was a natural pond - i dont want anything in it - i dont want to treat it or use chemicals in it etc. just a basic pond that will attract frogs and wildlife and put some goldfish in and maybe a solar powered water fountain - but i also hear it needs oxygenating etc. ould someone give me some tips on building this pond and what things are must haves and what will make it look ebtter? anything that helps me with this project Thanks
Redwing
You will need a way of draining it for cleaning so a tap at the base (if its raised) or a pump would be a good idea Apart from that I am clueless! sorry
Snowy
I don't have ducks myself, but i was under the impression that they would trash a wildlife pond
tom123
Any plants, frogs, goldfish will be eaten and wrecked. Waste of time.
Lesley
I have to agree - we tried plants in our first pond and they were all eaten.
Lewis
Just about to post the same as the others I think you could do what you're planning, and it will be fine ... but not if the ducks have access to it. The ducks would be better (IMO) with a plastic pool, that you can drain and clean out easily
ChrisEllis
ok - so the plan is to have a plastic tub - either over ground or dug into the ground - not a natural pond? So where do i go from here - i have heard many different tips such as having an extra 20 cm around the edge of the pond full of gravel to drain any water etc. any other ideas? Lesley
The problem is the size Chris - in a small area, ducks will trash it Kate Thear's book ' Starting with Ducks' gives details about natural ponds but I think it needs to be big.........I'll have time to look at the book tomorrow........
