karlotta
Thought I'd share some pics of my babies that I hatched in the Summer - they are 22 weeks tomorrow! Roy and Henrietta the Cuckoo Orps, Prudence the Blue Orp and Mia the Barnvelder (Carrie the Speckled Sussex refused to stand still for a picture!) And another of Roy! Hope you like! karlotta
awesome !Were they hard to raise ? Also, I have to ask , what do you do with all the eggs ? I don't really have any comparison really, but it seemed pretty easy - I hatched in an incubator and then reared them in a brooder in the garage under heat (it's a big wire enclosed area (like a WIR I guess) I had a brooder ring to start with and as they grew they had the run of the area. They got big pretty fast and at 7 weeks they went outside in a cube (it was the beginning of September and pretty warm here). The cube and extended run was within my electric fence so when they were old enough there were zero integration probs! I also had two other cockerels hatch (a barnvelder and a speckled sussex) and was lucky that I found great homes for them both. Regarding eggs.. at the moment I'm not getting a lot! They babies (and obviously Roy!) aren't laying yet, and out of the other 12 i'm getting between 5-8 at the moment (I've got some moulting and some resting - batts!). The bants are mostly on a winter rest! plus several i'm not expecting to start till the spring! Currently I'm lucky to get one a day!! Any excess eggs get snapped up by friends at work straight away (1.50 for 6)
