marti1066
hi all. I read a topic a few weeks ago where someone had used an Ikea shower curtain to cover the eglu to provide extra waterproofing. for the run. I have brought a couple of them, what a bargain at 79p!!, I just am not sure the best way to secure it to the run without making holes in the plastic, I have used clothes pegs as a temporary measure. Any ideas welcome. Wishing everyone an egg'cellent and Happy 2010! xx and my lovely Frizzles.

marti1066
hi again, can I just clarify do you stretch the bungee across the run to lash the curtain down, its just I think the plastic will rip quite easily if one end of the bungee was put into the plastic. In case anyone wants them I brought them in Ikea Edmonton, I also brought a bright green one to match the eglu a bit dearer at 2.99. I think they will brighten up to most gloomy of days, better that the kids brolly that I used to place over the run!! If anyone has difficulties getting them PM me and I can see what I can do. byeeeeee xx
mabelandflosmum
I fitted eyelets to the sides of mine (buy them in a haberdashery/sewing shop.) Then attach these with string to the bars of the run. It hasn't blown away yet!
Redwing
Yes stretched over the cover - this is mine with a clear tarp I push the tarp back on better days as you can see You can use the bungees through the plastic too, if there is enough give in the cover the bungees will grip through it with no piercing Even if you do pierce the cover it still stays quite strong though but over the top bungees are the way to go really
Plum
I do tie through the holes at the top of the Ikea shower curtains but don't make any holes
marti1066
Hi again, so many ideas, although I like the eyelets might see if I can get some, but in the meantime the bungees seem the ideal solution. Its always great to see pics of other eglus, so thank you. Redwing, do you have a tyre in the run or am I going mad? also what does the narrow plank of wood do? is it to keep out rats?? Always good to get ideas, and remember no such thing as a stupid question, well, unless it comes from me! lol. marti
Redwing
The narrow plank of wood is to keep the woodchip in, its held in place by tent pegs Yes ts a tyre, when the weather s better it is filled with wood ash and sol as a dustbath, the chickens do like the tyres too and sit around on them, a few of my runs have them in now
whoopsie
Hum. I think I need to do the woodchip thing. Your girls look much more comfortable than mine.
Cranfield Kate
we just put woodchip in our runs as we had full on lakes of water gathering and it does look pretty good and they seem to like it. I think i may have to get a tyre now too... and a shoe rack thingy...and i wonder if ikea should be told of the alternative uses for their shower curtans? I see an ad campaign coming on! Happy New Year, m x.
