Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

to be honest I am getting a bit fed up with one of my girls Sky (Skyline). She started moulting in the middle of September. She looks fabulous now, however since starting she did not lay a single egg! OK, I know it takes a few weeks as their body is exhausted, but 3-4monts The other ISA brown lays every day (it is her who should take a break I reckon).

 

What is the longest time your chook decided to take a break? I like her, however the main purpose of keeping her are the eggs to be honest. Yes, and she is fairly young, I think 2years or so.

My Light Sussex had sour crop in June and then moulted and hasn't laid since!

 

Hoping she will start again in the Spring.

My Splash Orpie Buffie went broody in June & laid her first egg just before Christmas...about 25 weeks of extended maternity leave ...her sisters are still on sympathetic maternity leave ...they have all moulted in the meantime too so all look much better than they did

Err...over a year Ruby had a moult last November and hasn't laid since Her feathers are gorgeous (just had another tiny moult) she's perfectly healthy and happy so she just had a very long retirement She only laid for six months all told yet Opal keeps going and they'll be 2 years old about now. They are Gingernut Rangers provided bu Omlet.

My two laying hens stopped at the end of September and I'm not expecting them to start again till February- when I hope at least SOME of the other 6 decide to start!

 

It's embarrassing buying eggs!

My old girls lay annually now (Ella will be 4 in 2010 and Coco is 2.5 years) so we don't get many eggs now.

Totally agree with that I do not know,but I think I will give her another month or two and then I will perhaps re-home her as I really do want to have some eggs for the effort of keeping them. Or maybe it is time to get two new girls to increase the chance of getting some eggs. Not sure what would hubby say though as he thinks 2 are just enough.

One of my girls had a moult but then didn't start laying again, I then found she had scaley leg . She must have got missed on my preventative spraying rounds .

 

I think once she feels better and recovers from that she will start again, so remember to check for creepy crawlies.
