Well done chickies!!

Recommended Posts

I really do feel for your chicks. It's a miracle they survived the night with no heat. It's below freezing at night at the moment. Hot water bottles & snugglepads do not stay warm all night, only for a few hours. If I recall correctly they're not a hardy breed but Silkies or Polands, both of which are even more at risk in the cold than many other breeds. Even if I'm wrong I still wouldn't have chicks outside without heat now. Time and time again you've been offered advice here so I doubt you'll take my concerns on board. What you're doing is sheer folly and it's those chicks that'll pay the ultimate price.

I think you're confusing Josh with ChrisEllis asking about putting his chicks out too early, Cheryl?

I do have to agree though Josh, might be best to keep them with the heat lamp overnight as it drops below 0 and they're only tiny so can't keep themselves warm.

Just think about if something happened to them :(

Hi

Cheryl: i think you are mixing me up with chris ellis as i have only hatched once this year and have not asked for any advice as i have hatched before.

Thanks for the advice guys i have brought them indoors and they are now causing a riot by chasing joey round the kitchen and rocky the biggest one likes to perch on his back but does not work as joey is trying to hide in his bed  he's a big wuss

My chicks are 8 weeks this coming Wednesday & still under heat about 18 degrees C in my front room, in their guinea cage. I can't bring myself to turn the lamp off in the day yet, it's too cold for us humans, let alone chicks.

Mine will be indoors until they are about 12 - 13 weeks, then they will move out into pen within a shed.

I agree they do need heat on them still night and day is pos.

I have 2 sets of chicks, some 4 weeks who are on heat 24/7 and will be until early Feb and a few 10 weeks who are in a stable all day with a very low heat lamp on at night. They will be in here until early Feb too.

Could your silkies come inside in a pet carrier and hot water bottle at night??
