loopelu
Afternoon Everyone, I am a bit worried about our bubbles the gingernut ranger. She is unhappy. She is standing on her own in the corner of the run and looking sad. Is it just the cold? Is she broody or is she poorly? I noticed yesterday that she looked a bit sluggish and was last out of the eglu this morning by some way, the Pepperpots are always first followed by ginger but bubbles took a while to emerge. Last night I went out, it was -5 and I checked on them, I am closing their door early on due to cold etc and taking in the food and water at night into the garage, but when I mucked out this morning I noticed a lot of white poo, could this be a tummy upset and could this be the problem. We supplement thier pellets and corn with greens, raisans oats etc and wondering whether bubbles may have a problem with some of it? Any advice will be gratefully recieved. toodle pip Loopelu
Patricia W
It may just be the cold but keep an eye on her. I'd bring her in if you are really worried so you can observe her. Tricia
Henhathnofury
Oddly enough I have a Gingernut who is behaving exactly the same way.....the 'white' poo, which my girl also has, might indicate a urinary infection or simply that it is very very cold and that she is weeing a lot more. I think with my girl it is a combination of age and being cold. Does she feel hot? That could be an infection.... Is her comb floppy? loopelu
Thank you for your replies. Her comb is upright and she doesnt feel too hot, must be the cold. Gosh this is a good forum, and great to know we are not alone in the chicken herding lifestyle.
Henhathnofury
My little gingernut is still not quite 'right' although there is nothing seriously wrong with her. But I have just been out to give her hot mash, raisins, mealworms and sunflower hearts. She ate with gusto. Whew! They do suddenly 'come good' and then it's a relief. You are never alone on this forum...everyone is very very kind and also knowlegeable.....
chelsea
Phew, glad to hear she's perked up - eating is a good sign. Keep an eye on her (as I'm sure you will).
Henhathnofury
She certainly gets worse when it snows. When it last snowed back in February she became really spooked, as if she could not cope. She squawked as if her heart would break at the snowman. We had just bought a white chicken, who she loathed and I think she took against the colour white. One morning I went out with a white towel on my head and she tried to fly a six foot fence. Strange baby. I will watch her though, she is the only one left of my Omlet two. Really well loved.....
