Please help quickly...Bare bottomed chickens

Recommended Posts

Well, my girls hate the snow,so they haven't really been out, had to go to work today - had argument in a road with a mean man, got back from work ( finally) to see Evie keep pecking the other 2 girls bottoms and now they have no feathers there. I've let them out but they just stay on a paving slab- not much fun for them. I have no anti peck spray or anything like it ,is there something i can use that doesn't involve the shops ?It's not that i don't want to spend money just i really don't want to out in the snow again.

Thanks for any advice.

You made me smile anyway as Evie has changed to Elvis, thanks for brightening my miserable day. :D

Can't find my specs! I did wonder why she apparently had a boy's name, but then there are some hens called Dave.

Sorry you have had a rotten day.

I'd put the citricidal on the feathers and perhaps a thin layer of sudocrem on the sore bits.

I'm afraid they do peck a bit at each other in the dark sometimes. Once they get into the habit it can be a bit hard to break.

I think maybe she got bored as its never happened before and they have been rather cooped up - but I will try and walk to the chemist to get something tomorrow.

I will put the citricidal on their feathers in the morning and then set off. I can't believe how much a chicken looks like real chicken underneath  poor things.

Someone suggested Tea tree oil so i set off for the chemist this morning. It was hard work in the snow but much nicer that meeting some grump in a car.

They didn't have tea tree oil but did sell some antiseptic tea tree spray so i bought that for now. I shut the bullying Evie away whilst i tipped the others upside down wrapped in an towel nappy. I sprayed the stuff on their bare skin - it was a bit like preparing dinner :( - i didn't like that thought.

Evie did have a little go after that but then she spent quite a while s"Ooops, word censored!"ing her beak on the wheel- perhaps that might teach her.

I intend to do it again before they go to bed - is that ok?

If this isn't the answer and the snow comes again in the night i think i will :wall:

I was scared a week or so ago to see my favourite, Betsy Trotwood, looking completely plucked all around her bottom, and getting a bald patch on her back. It was raining heavily then too, and the rain flattened her feathers and made her look almost oven-ready. Horrible! I started giving all my chickies oat porridge with poultry spice every day, and Betsy is looking MUCH better now. She got pecked on her back when it was bald, but luckily she pecked the pecker back, so I didn't have to get any blue stuff. Would blue food colouring work :?:
