motherhen
Well that's me stuffed then. 46 and still trying to tell time with wrist at arms length but at that distance I can't read the tiny date thing and with my brain long gone I can never remember the date to need the watch..... Do they do varifocal contact lenses?
motherhen
OK Lesley - but with a strong 'don't try this yourself'. Bro and group of equally drunk friends staggered to the hen house at the bottom of the garden in the wee small hours and replaced all the water in the hen's water bowls with beer. Few hours later when I went to let them out (not knowing then of the 'incident') found them all lying on their sides or staggering around. Very strong smell - the beer must have raced through their systems and - dont read next line if about to eat - the hen house was full of beery diarrhoea. This of course gave the game away and bro's hangover turned into his worst nightmare (think the scars are gone now - must check when see him this Xmas) Very dodgy laying for the next few days and didn't really want to eat what they did lay anyway. Assume hens like taste of beer but beer doesn't like them! Am keeping Sybil and Pollo strictly tee-total - son fears me more than bro did Actually S and P are doing really well with the very short days up here. Getting about 10 or 11 eggs a week and not a bad size. Although I must confess to leaving the security light on a bit and putting titbits in their run to delay roosting
Lesley
No - I won't be trying that and I don't think Carl will let his home-brew out of sight! Our four are also laying well - we are overrun with eggs! Lesley
Mrs Frugal
Jane, I'm in big trouble for laughing hysterically at the drunken hen story while the rest of my lot are trying to watch a film - boring lot ! The forum knocks spots off their video for excitement and entertainment today! Good story - I'll make sure my boys don't try that trick or THEY'LL be the ones cleaning up the mess! Mrs Frugal
Things I've learned this week..... Don't rush when you're assembling your children's gingerbread house - it only ends in tears (and broken gingerbread house walls all over the floor) . I've learned that it is better to leave hasslesome jobs until Boxing Day when things aren't quite so fraught . Also, when looking for white writing icing, don't assume that the one in the white tube is actually the white you are desperate for - mine was red - it leads you to assume that manufacturers have a cruel sense of humour, doesn't it ! HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL - Hope you don't learn unfortunate lessons over the festive season - hope it goes smoothly for you all !

Trish
Never trust other people to arrange things for you I spent most of last weekend chaseing round Yorkshire with Daniel, to Tennis tournaments when I'd been given the wrong time, but today just takes the biscuit. Matt (our 14 year old) was supposed to be taking a Jazz piano exam this morning, he's worked so hard for it and we were all so nervous. To cut a long story short he's been entered for the classical exam by mistake. The music board are saying there's no places on an exam now till June His teacher is adamant that he applied for the right exam and we know that there are exams going on in Harrogate tomorrow so his teacher is trying to get them to add Matthew on, the exam is only 12 minutes long. But we're waiting for them to find the original application form to prove it's their mistake and even then if they say no then there's nothing we can do really. Sorry to moan when so many people are feeling so unwell just feeling feed up
Nicola H
Thats all right Trish you get it off your chest we don't mind............ Sorry to hear about the mix up with the exams poor Matt he must have got his self all geared up to take the exam. Hope you get everything sorted soon jazz piano sounds great, GOOD LUCK MATT when you eventually get to take the exam let us know how you get on......................... Trish
Thanks Nicola, neeed an ear to chew I get so involved with the kids things, I think I'm more upset than Matt. Still don't know what's happening but I really hope we can get on tomorrow, if he waits while June I'm concerned he'll loose focus and music is what he wants to do in life, more guitar than piano but he really needs both. Sorry Neurotic Mother Syndrome again
Mrs Frugal
Use us as stress relief anytime, Trish! Hope it all gets sorted out for him quickly so that he doesn't lose focus. Nothing worse than having things put back, is there. Good luck when it does happen.
Trish
Just to let folks know the music exam is back on for tomorrow but we have to go to Hull which is an hours drive away. Still not sure who made the mistake but hopefully this won't sour everything between us and the teacher etc. Thanks for the sympathy

Lesley
Poor Sarah's got herself a reputation now (and Kate's got one on River Cottage for using rude words! shhhhh....)
Mrs Frugal
I did NOT use rude words - I used the wrong word and that innuendo-brained lot went to town on it, didn't they ! I'm very careful about vocabulary now and will never, repeat never use the word "column" on RC again when describing a magazine article !!! motherhen
Good luck Matt and good thoughts to you Trish. Both my little darlings have done music exams and I'm sure that is what has turned me grey. Daughter who was 17 yesterday has a trumpet exam in 9 days and has just announced she will be out all day tomorrow with boyfriend. Says she doesn't need to practice!!!!! At the moment there are about 8 girls downstairs, supposed to be having a sleepover, but half have forgotten sleeping bags. Thank goodness we sleep in the attic. By the way I did the filming for the BBC news hopefully on Monday at 6pm and 10pm on roulette terminals on betting shops. There is a long way between filming and actually appearing on TV but you never know.
