Mrs Frugal
Well done Jane - hope something good comes out of it! I'll be watching !
Trish
Thanks Jane it's good to know we're not the only ones with a teenager saying things like, "I'll practise later", "I've done loads today (somehow silenlty)" and "I'm okay Mum, back off". Don't they realise we'd rather be doing it for them
Mrs Frugal
It's a teenage thing, Trish. Tom does the same thing about homework! We have all sorts of rows - try to get him to do it the day it's set and not leave it all till the weekend but will he listen - no! He doesn't realise that we've been there and done the same thing and know it's stupid to leave it all till the last minute !
Nicola H
Good luck with the campaign Jane hope all your hard work pays off in the end.....................
Trish
Phew exam done. Everything that could happen did but we got there on time and then the exam was late Matt swings from thinking he's passed to he's failed but we'll find out in two to three weeks time. Thanks for all the support
Nicola H
Glad Matt got to sit the exam hope he passes I suppose 2-3 weeks is not too long to wait ..............................
Lesley
Carl learned something today - don't go and play with the chickens before a client calls to discuss his Tax problems!! It wasn't until the client left that Carl realised that he was "covered in chicken s***!!" - little 'starfish' footprints down his trousers!
Trish
He was just proving that dealing with tax can be fun as well
Lesley
Luckily the client now has two chickens after seeing ours in the summer and he didn't bat an eyelid!
motherhen
Lesley - could you ask Carl if we can put down our hens as dependants on our tax forms. I certainly seem to spend more time attending to their needs than those of my repelling offspring. Over lunch today daughter asked if she could log onto this forum to post messages about my little darlings, whom she insists on calling the 'smellies'. And before you ask NO THEY DON'T SMELL!!! And this was after she had used up all the eggs making pancakes for her friends for breakfast (well more lunch time wise) after their sleepover. Those of you who still have children at the delightful stage (anything pre hormones), be afraid, be very afraid. At least the car survived daughter's first go at wrecking the gear box. And it ONLY cost £240 extra to add her to the insurance. And that is for a group 2 car that already has an 18 year old on it. Start saving now! Makes the eglu and hens seem really cheap ps the website for campaigning against gambling should be up and running now. Husband and I are just about still talking to each other! It is www.rega.org.uk. You might be able to catch me on the BBC 6pm and 10pm news tomorrow - unless I end up on the cutting room floor
Lesley
And don't think it's just teenagers My son (30) delayed coming back from visiting girlfriend in Romania (ended up via Paris so I couldn't keep track) phoned on way up from Heathrow to say he was calling in. Aaaaah! how thoughtful - not! "I need to borrow your car because mine's been standing for two weeks and it's got a water leak and the roads are icy - I'll be safer in yours" - "I'll bring it back in the morning" I next saw him and car at 3pm - I knew he was safe as daughter had said he was home! Best bit was - as soon as he'd driven off I needed to look in my car for my Insurance schedule! Not sure about chickens as dependants - it just feels like it though. definite liabilities:lol: I'll be looking out for you tomorrow Jane
SarahJo
Posted: Fri Feb 25, 2005 7:06 pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Poor Sarah's got herself a reputation now Lesley ...... and Nicola, shame on you both. . While you were casting "drunken slurs" on my very good nature .. I was in bed as Ill as an Ill person could be .. Graham has even taken time off work to look after the kids, as I was "BED BOUND" ... and literally couldn't get up anyway He did a really good job of looking after EVERYTHING .. from kids to chooks, so something I have learned this week ... "yes, they will manage for a few days without you" .(not that I like them too though ). As for wine ... I have not had any for 3 weeks now .. Graham did offer last night and I ran to the toilet . Sarah .... infection ridden .. but alcohol free
Mrs Frugal
Poor thing (hope my virus checker is working!) Glad to hear you're being pampered though . Hope you're better soon, Sarah.
Trish
Hope you get better soon Sarah. Your local off licence will go out of business. No really get better soon it's miserable to be ill for so long
motherhen
Anyone who looked at the news tonight will have seen some of the awful things going on so I was not surprised that gambling was bounced off. The good news is that Denise Mahoney has emailed me and with more time available now she's interviewing a couple more people so hopefully it will be on in the next few days. Mind you , whether the couple more people will be instead of me, who knows. I'm just pleased BBC are covering issue of fobts. I had no idea our high street betting shops could have these machines in them - they have only been around 2 or 3 years and are already described as the 'crack cocaine of gambling'. For more info website is now up and running at www.rega.org.uk
Sheilaz
Jane, I did look out for you & had assumed that I had missed you due to regional news. But, if it is shown on national news but slipped of the schedule, I shall keep looking this week! Keep up the good work.
Mrs Frugal
Yes, I thought I'd missed it too but I'll keep on watching all week. glad to hear there's time for more, Jane. Good luck with evrything.
SarahJo
Hope you get better soon Sarah. Your local off licence will go out of business. Trish .... the tesco bill has never been so little since the wine consumption halted . I have also lost 1/2 stone ... so when I am better can enjoy catch up, with all my yummy fav foods, and not worry too much about extra weight gain ( now I have a little to play with ). Fingers crossed for the exam results . Sarah.
motherhen
Had an email from the reporter, Denise Mahoney, to say piece is edited (she didn't say if I'm edited in or out though) and editor will view tomorrow afternoon so it will hopefully go out on BBC 6pm and/or 10pm news tomorrow (Weds). If it does then I can be really lazy and not bother putting my photo in the photoalbum Unfortunately all the filming was done with the cameraman having his back to the backyard and hens so they will not be appearing. It might have had something to do with the totally disgusting state of my windows. That will teach me to be a housecleaning slut. Although with the builders making so much dust and mess next door, cleaning them would have been pointless. Sadly (?!) the builders finished this morning and the lovely family with 4 kids moved in this afternoon. Fortunately by the time they came round to eat with us this evening it was dark and I could pull the curtains over the embarrassing windows. I won't be able to clean them tomorrow if it is raining, or the next day......... However I can't really wish for rain since the hen run is already a quagmire and I have put some logs in it so the girls can get up out of the mud. Mrs Frugal
I'll be watching, Jane. Good luck when it does go out. When I did the piece for our local BBC news with Johannes last year, they filmed nearly all afternoon and yet the whole piece was only about 1 and a half minutes long in the end so I hope your piece hasn't been cut short like that. What a shame the hens aren't going to be in though!
Lesley
I'll be watching as well Jane - but we will still need a photo for the Gallery - we haven't forgotten!
motherhen
For anyone who watched the 6pm news the piece was shown but cut short at the last minute apparently and I got the chop. I got a most apologetic email from the reporter but I'm just pleased the issue was covered. Suppose I have no excuse now about photo on photoalbum. Promise I'll do it as soon as I've cleaned the windows!
Mrs Frugal
Sorry to hear you didn't make it into the piece in the end, Jane. I watched it on the 6 o'clock news. Now we're all looking forward to a photo in the gallery instead! Good luck with the campaign .
Mrs Frugal
Back to topic - things I've learned this week..... Ok, I've learned today that if something doesn't look safe enough to stand on - IT ISN'T!!! There I was in the garage, hunting an elusive can of green paint which was on the shelf that hangs from the garage roof. I spotted the old step stool in a corner - "That'll do!" I thought. I climbed onto the first step....creak..... then the second.......CREAK...... but carried on regardless. Just as I was reaching for the paint can - CRASH!!! I went straight through the steps and ended up on the garage floor! Luckily unharmed but a little wiser - only a little though .
