SarahJo
Well said Kate A. I did post at the top of my 1st reply, that I would try not to offend anyone .... you included, as it sounds like you are very much at the sharp end. . I agree entirely with what you have said ..... and will not get anyone started on NICE, Formularies or drug tarrifs. . Again I don't blame the GPs/health professionals or even the drug companies ..... just some kind of crazy management system and governent enforcement. You made me laugh a little (sorry to all on ACE's) regarding the cough, I was involved in the B-Blocker market, and strangely the metformin one too . If your lady does not have the runs, she will certainly be WINDY . Chelsea - don't be worried, at worse you should only get the runs/rash/nausea with antibiotics. The generics are still active drugs, just have different colours/flavours and delivery materials that may or may not suit you. Essentially it is the same active drug, but always be aware as KateA has said, of possible side effects by reading the patient info notes. Lesley
do read the patient information leaflet, you'd be amazed how many people don't bother Good point but I had to use a magnifying glass for some of the leaflets I had to read - even my reading glasses were no help. It's as if they want to put people off reading all the info. I checked online as well as the Americans are generally given far more info on drugs than we are and it makes it easier to find out what problems there may be. Thanks for all the info. Sarah - very useful.
One Man Banned
Glad you spotted that one Buff hope your Dad makes a good recovery soon - just another example of the way Primary Care Trusts are being forced to balance the books You know you can always ask Joe for his advice too, just send me a PM and he'll sort you out. Does make him a tad handy round the house now I'm not 100% at the mo. A xx
The Dogmother
So that's what was causing the nasty taste you had Lesley I am always wary when prescribed anything by GPs (fortunately this is rarely), and that's coming from a family of medics! Not the same situation as Buffie has described, but still Eejit doctor syndrome Not long ago, I went to my GP with a problem, I questioned the suitability of the drugs she prescribed as they are not supposed to be taken if you have certain contra-indications (which I had). Anyway, she prescribed them and reassured me - when I collected the prescription, I checked the small print right there in the pharmacy (which is next to the surgery), and sure enough, it said that they shouldn't be taken if you have *** and **** I was furious, luckily the pharmacist refunded the price of the prescription and I went back to complain to the GP. She explained that she isn't an expert in that field and was 'trying out that one to see if it worked'!!!! I pointed out that I'm not a guinea pig and got a referral to a consultant, who DOES know what they are doing.
Lesley-Jean
Very interesting information SarahJo. I've filed that away in my brain for when I need it How is your father doing Buffie
Lesley-Jean
That made me smile LJ, exactly right I am ordinary, life just exposes us to experience and we learn, hopefully I didn't mean you are "ordinary" Buffie. I usually find you rather "extrordinary" in the things by do
buffie
Oh LJ please don't worry. Didn't take it the wrong way, you're right. I don't think I explained what I meant very well. My dad feels pretty good, a bit weak still but walked dora (their boxer dog) yesterday and sounds back to his old self. he's a very strong man and he's never had a day in hospital. It was a real shock for him and then to find it was medication. He was stunned. Anyway looking good and thanks for asking, just see what the next blood test and scan reveal but we feel positive BBx
