saracook31
Dory has been a bit quiet this morning and have realised shes not opening her left eye properly. Her poo looks ok and her comb is ok, just a bit worried about her eye. Any ideas?
Egluntyne
Has she got the sniffles?

Sal119
Can you open her eye to have a look perhaps? If the eye looks cloudy and she seems unwell, I'd perhaps take her to the vet. One of ours had a closed eye and was just standing around, and it turned out she had a bad eye infection. Can't be too careful with eyes. I'd keep checking on her. chelsea
I agree with the vet trip. We've had a couple of eye problems here and they both required veterinary treatment and antibiotics. If it's an infection and not treated it can result in blindness, don't want to alarm you but best checked out.
Redwing
If the eye is just swollen its probably something in the eye or an eye infection (that will need drops/antibiotics) I used Optrex 'infected eye' drops to clear an eye infection - its not licenced for use on chickens though obviously (and dont tell the shop that its for a chicken) If there are any tiny bubbles around the eye, runny nose anything like that then isolate the bird immediately and get it to a vet as it may have mycoplasma
chick wiggle
One of mine had a swollen eye and kept it closed, other than that she was fine. took her to the vet and eventually we discovered she had a piece of corn stuck behind her third lid. It must have felt like a brick to her, poor thing. After it was out her eye was better straight away, just a bit sore looking for a week. Take her to the vets to have a look. Better safe than sorry. Egluntyne
Ditto to Redwing's post. Have you been able to see if there is a foreign body under the lid? Also, she could have been on the receiving end of a well aimed peck. For now I would bathe the area with cold tea ( no milk or sugar!) until you can get her seen. Valkyrie
Apache did last year. We took her to the vet and I was given ointment to rub on both eyes to prevent cross infection, and some antibiotics to add to their drinking water in case it was infectious. Now one giant bird, some eye ointment and I'll let you visualise the rest of the mayhem that ensued.
