suebee
Hi all, I'm on with a bit of research into possible additions to my flock. I'm rather taken with Faverolles, and encouraged by what I've heard so far. I gather they're rather prone to being bullied, but would not be living with my four hybrids, so not a prob there. Wondered if anyone here keeps them, and could give me the benefit of their experience. Cheers folks.
Griffin
I've got one, she's called Sausage She is one of my favourite girls, so sweet natured and I love the sound she makes, she's always chattering to herself. She's best friends with Custard the Pekin and Nelly the Silkie. I've been watching her alot recently, she looks after them. She's forever going back and forth checking up on them and she rounds them up at bedtime. Hob"Ooops, word censored!" joins them and they all sleep huddled up together. She loves cuddles She's brilliant with the kids because she just stands there so they can pick her up. I hatched her myself last year from an Ebay egg. She's supposed to be LF but she's definitely bantam sized A friend has a bantam hen too and she's on the look out for a husband for it, I'd love to hatch some more if she finds one! Redwing
You're right about them being prone to bullying! my Faverolle was attacked by a group of my chickens last year and has only just recovered, she now lives alone sadly, she just doesnt get on with the rest of my chooks Their lack of vision due to their beards is a problem, they cant see threats or even you coming some times and can be a bit flinchy as a result apparently, mine certainly is But They are lovely characterful chooks, very easy to tame, good naturedly cheerful if a bit dim! curious at everything and are so funny to watch, mine doesnt scratch up the grass or stray too far and is no trouble at all I spent two hours cleaning out my garden chickens today while my Faverolle free ranged around me in my unfenced garden good as gold
suebee
Wow. Rave reviews indeed. Thanks so much you two. I would probably get a small group, four maybe, and keep them separately. They sound just my cup of tea.
tom123
Lovely hens, very tame, always chatting, very inquisitive and dim. But as the others had said mine is prone to bullying too so is living with a little pekin bantam instead of LF as they just picked on her. Lovely hens if they can be kept on their own
Griffin
They don't always have to be on their own, depends on your flock. Sausage free ranges all day with around 20 hybrids, pure breed LF & bantams Her best friends are the bantams she was reared with but she gets on well with everyone. Mine are a friendly bunch, most of the time.

sparkysmum
Hi, have to agree with everything, they are not the brightest of hens but ever so lovely. I would keep lots of them if we had the room. Hope you're not looking for eggs tho'. We've had one & she must be 8mths old
meezers
I had one from Faverollehen ( hi Nikki ) sadly she died a couple of months ago. I still miss her, she was my favourite. Mine wasn't bullied, but I did keep her seperate from my hybrids, the chooks in with her were all chosen for docile temperments and it seemed to work, she got on well with my dorking and legbar. When she free ranged with the hybrids she would hide behind me if they came too close - no joke, she was just like a toddler peeping round my legs ' are they gone yet mum?' She loved cuddles and would sit on our laps for ages just snoozing while we stroked her. I'll be getting another Faverolle this year, they are the best . faverollehen
What did she die of?
meezers
What did she die of? I really don't know - which makes the situation worse, as even now I'm wondering 'what if I had.......?' I let them out of the coop one morning and noticed Favvie was not herself( she was fine the evening before ), just standing still with head down. As she was my favourite I made an appointment at the vets straight away. He agreed she wasn't right but also couldn't find anything wrong with her he thought maybe she was starting an infection , so gave her an injection of Baytril - she then had a seizure and died on the table Everyone tells me she must have been more poorly than we thought, but I can't help wishing I'd never taken her to the vet ! Anyway, I may be contacting you later in the year as I will want another Faverolle, they are such gorgeous chooks.
