franklyrabbit
We'd like to grow sweetpeas in the same area as one of our clematis which is taking its time to cover a trellis. Can you buy baby plants (see how greenfingered I am ) or should we buy seeds? The rabbits shouldn't be able to reach them, but are sweetpeas OK for rabbits in case they want a taste? C&T
Both. Easy to grow from seed, but you will also be able to buy small plants in the coming months.

ubereglu
You can do both and sow them now too! Then you should get flowers early June I should think.

franklyrabbit
Now I'm getting excited about sweetpeas! I can see me having them everywhere in the garden Are they poisonous to rabbits do you know?
Couperwife
dont know about poisonous but I do know that the more you cut sweetpeas, the more flowers you get on them...so you could have bunches and bunches of sweetpeas around the house cathy x
chickenanne
I love sweetpeas. I love that you have to keep cutting them or they stop flowering - so you "have" to have vases of flowers in the house. I love that the seeds are really big so dead easy to sow. I love that the seedlings are big, so dead easy to transplant. They are also quick-growing from seed. And endless colours. And lovely smell. Personally, I would give seeds a go as if they don't do well then you can always get some plantlets in early spring: seeds aren't expensive - say £1.20 so it's not like you're risking much ££ doing it that way. ubereglu
I've now sown my seeds too, as of yesterday! I'm growing floral tribute mixed, which are really nice and come in lots of colours.
Christian
I have to grow sweetpeas every year! I usually have at least 3 wigwams of them - 2 in the garden and 1 in the veggie garden along with runner beans. You get masses of flowers, and as has been said, the more you pick the more you get. Well worth the price of a packet of seeds. Garden centres will start selling small plants around March Franklyrabbit.
