Thanks for all your replies, I have sent out the men forthwith, there are three here so they can share the duties.

However, we were out for the day and when we got back, there was the fox. The chickens were panicking in the run and poor Persephone had blood down her front and the bleeding seemed to be coming from her nose, we cleaned her up and she seems ok. I think she crashed into something in her panic.

 

My question now is this - when we originally got their coop it was one of those wooden, rectangular ones with a run attached and wood top to bottom on one end and half the back.

We put this in the middle of the WIR, so I reckon it would be a good idea to shut them in there when everyone is out. That way, they have places to hide especially if I put more wood round it and hopefully will panic less. My worry is that they will panic the same but in a more confined space. What do you think?

I think I will try a foxwatch though.

How big is the run i.e. how far away is the coop from the walls of the run?

Hello,

Their run is 8' x 8' and the coop sits inside with about 1' gap around the ends and back, which leaves about 4' at the front. I had to leave them again this morning, so I shut them in the small run and draped duvets over it leaving just the front, so if a fox did come it would have been quite a distance from where they could see it.

All looks peaceful, I shall let them out into the bigger run now I am home. It's a shame, everything was hunkydory until this week. I've ordered a foxwatch, so I'm hoping that and the men doing their bit will calm things down.

Heck you are having a terrible time. Just wanted to say take care when you have a wire run in a run that they can't get their feet caught if they jump on top.

have you tried a fox watch?

Sounds like a very hungry fox.

Maybe try and find its's patch and put some food in it's belly.

not a popular solution I don't supose but do it well well away from your home and it might get shot of it...

course someone will have to keep up with uit or it will be back looking for an easy meal

I am in the process of getting a run built, man comes next week, but I have two foxwatches, I know we have foxes in my area but none have appeared, I like to think it is the foxwatch. Get one it will help
