The end of an era .......... sigh.

I used to see him and Cleo Laine at Ronnie Scotts every time I came home from Uni in the early 70s

I'd never heard of him I've just watched a bit on the BBC about him and he was incredibly talented and wonderful to hear

My elderly sax & clarinet teacher used to go up and visit him at home once a year. He will be really upset - an end of an era

Yes very sad news, but he lived to a good age.

 

He and Cleo Laine were always on the telly in the 70's, her 'scatting' used to drive me scatty as a child, and I grew up hating that kind of music.

 

I have more of an appreciation now, oh and the 'scatting' isn't so annoying

 

Never knew he wrote so many theme tunes, what a talent he was.

we live very close to the Stables Theatre which he built up with Cleo and it is a fantastic place,all sorts of music workshops going on there all the time. A fantasic legacy
