semi permanent housing suggestions ideas please

Recommended Posts

We are hoping to buy a couple of pekins at the Peebles Poultry show on the 28th of this month :Dbut I'm wondering what would be good quality & not too expensive housing. Another eglu is sadly out of the question :( but we still have the eglu run. The eglu itself is in our WIR. So ideally I'm looking for a small house which I can attach to our eglu run.

I'm not too keen on using pet carriers etc as temporary accommodation as it might turn out to be permanent if the pekins don't get on with the others :?

Confused :?: I know OH is :!: Ideas welcome :!:

I'd be more inclined to get the Eglu out of the WIR to add to the existing Eglu run, and put some new housing in the WIR, as you won't need to worry so much about security in the walk in run, but security will be an issue outside.

I have used a cat carrier with home made roosting bars on a long term basis when doing integrations, and I know that some people have used then for nesting boxes too (although you would need 2 but they are only about £15 each :D

Good luck choosing your new girls, Allison :D . I'm not jealous at all :liar: .

Space Chick's advice seems good to me. You'd find it hard to find anything to fit securely to the eglu run so using the eglu itself seems like the only solution. Like she says, I used a pet carrier with roosting bars in for integrations and put a piecee of black plastic and a towel over the top to make it a bit cosier (which you couldn't do if it was out in the elements).

Have you got a birthday coming up? Perhaps a tiny little Eglu Go might be just what you're needing  ? (I wonder if they have any reconditioned Go's yet  ?)

Thank you for your speedy replies :!: I'm a bit loathe to take my eglu out of the WIR as my ladies are soooooooooooooo happy in it :!: Kintaline Farm have a used Bantam " box" including nest box for £50, I might follow this up and see if it could be attached to my run.

ANH, I would just love a reconditioned GO and will check this out immediately :D Thank you. Would you not like a couple more yourself :?::lol:
