Holiday makeup bag help!

Recommended Posts

I need to sort out what makeup to buy / take for my holiday in Egypt.

I have to travel light & want as minimum as possible. I was thinking along the lines of...

Tinted moisturiser - goodness knows what colour

Bronzing powder/blush

Sparkly eye shadow

glitter liner

mascara

lipgloss

Any recommendations as to what to buy? I'm a bit limited to Body shop, Superdrug & Boots in Crewe. I'd like it all to be in a set really - but don't mind separates.

Help! I want to look nice in the evenings.

Hi Emma,

When I went to Egypt, I took far to much. I don't think you will need a bronzing powder as the sun will give you lovely natural glow. All I ended up using was my mascara, lipgloss and golden eyeshadow in the evenings :D I have now learned to pack the bare essentials & if I need to buy when I get there.

Hope you have a wonderful time

Okay,this is my area.

Don't bother with a tinted moisturiser ......after a couple of days you will have a hint of color anyhow, & it will be hot,so you may sweat it off & end up streaky. Just a decent mattifying moituriser instead & a translucent powder.

Look for the mini Bourjois range in Boots or Superdrug for some lovely day to evening colors, shimmer & sparkle,or spend £22 on Boots no7 at the moment & get a Fab gift of travel sizes.

I really like bourjois for most things makeup wise. Instead of a tinted moisturiser or bronzer (as youll get a nice colour) you could go for a pinky blusher type thing that bourjois do - thing one is called rose eclir (mine is in the car and I am in jammies!). It comes with a little brush but I reccomend using just a small amount on finger tips and just a little on the apples of your cheeks.

For eyeshadow it would be worth while getting a few colours in one pallette - save on space. Dont know what colour your eyes are but greys are always nice and they do one that goes from almost white to silver/grey into a dark grey which if used carefully can double as a eyeliner (small amount on finger then put on eye lid/under eye).

To me mascara is mascara so go for one youve used before and like.

Add a lip gloss and your done! Just nothing to sticky or drying. When you have a colour even a tinted lip balm can look lovely and moisturise your lips.

It does so depend on colouring - I could never wear red lipstick, but got for shimmery deepish pink sheer glosses instead.

I have a couple of fab metallic eyeliners from Boots No7 that are brilliant for a little bit of glam in the evening. The gold looks great with a tan :D

As I mentioned earlier, spen £22 & you get a really nice gift with a mini protect & perfect, a mini mascara, a gorgeous pink gloss, a shimmery khaki gold shadow & some other bits too,all in a usefull bag - well worth it.

Look for a transluscent powder with a subtle shimmer in it,as it goes with any skin tone & will still look good when you have a bit of colour, OR Olay do a fab moisturiser with a really nice glow in it,which gives a subtle shimmer too, which is perfect for day or evening.

Hi - I don't really do face powder, as I like a dewy finish. I have thought about the olay stuff - but I think I'm going to go with the nice blusher idea. I tan quite quickly & I'm extremely experimently & wild with eye colours. I love makeup! 8)8)

I can get away with reddish lipstick too. I was looking at bodyshop sparkle cubes eye shadows, but I will look at all the ranges in Boots.

I've seen the No 7 gift & I don't think I'd use the stuff that's in it this time - not keen on the colours.

I love sparkle / shimmer - so I'll definitely look at the Bourjois range. Oh how I love makeup shopping.

I'll let you know what I get later today - first it's holiday hairdo (cut & colour). Oh the thought of being pampered.

My "desert island" make up product would be Touche Eclat by YSL :D . It's a fabulous highlighting pen to use all over the face and it really does give that "dewey glow" healthy look to the skin. Hides dark circles and bags under eyes, you can use it to contour aswell. It is expensive at approx £22 for the pen but I've had mine nearly a year and still going strong, and I've had comments from other people whilst wearing it - even my sister said "what have you done, you look different?....like a teenager again!"

Dare I say, don't take any make-up, except maybe a Factor 25+ lip protector/gloss? Honestly, I don't know anybody who looks better wearing make-up than they do without it, and you will have a lovely healthy glow anyway from the sun - why cover it up? You won't want mascara in a hot climate like that - it will run like mad, or if you buy the "runproof" stuff it will just dry and little flecks will fall off onto your face.

Just make sure you wear very high factor sun cream (Factor 25+) to prevent burning or you might need something to hide the redness.

Ooooo, me too,me too!!!

Buying make up for holidays is a joy for me, & the Bourjois Mini range is just brilliant with teeny sized lip glosses & coin sized shimmery shadow :P8)

I don't wear much apart from a shimmery lip protector, face sun screen & a great waterproof mascara that doesn't run or flake during the day,but the gorgeous colours for the evening are such fun :P

If you do decide to try the Olay,I can really recommend it - I use it all the time for day wear,as it gives a lovely dewy finish. I bought the new Boots No7 one today too, which is fab.....Lift & Luminate its called..very pretty indeed.

My daughters had most of my No7 free gift goodies,as the colours weren't my thing either.

Makeup is fun! I don't do the theatre dame look Docsqid, so don't worry. I just like a bit of glam on the eyes & lips. I've done a lot of travelling, so know how makeup behaves & what to avoid in the heat, but it's lovely to 'doll' up a bit - all part of being a girlie woman & feminine! Bring on the glittter!

I just can't wait to have my hair done in a min & go makeup shopping after. Cinnamon if I lived nearer we could go makeup shopping together! :D

 Not everyone !

On one of my rare sunshine hols with OH in Greece a local asked if I'd just arrived - when I'd been there 2 weeks :lol:

Nowadays I'd know to pack a gentle face fake tanner like this http://uk.clarins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/beauty-products_radiance-and-brightening_radiance-plus-self-tanning-cream-gel_C010405002_10201_11751_-11_32203_44057_30103

I wish there was a foundation that had a higher spf factor than 15 - that is nowhere near enough for the face as far as I am concerned

I am quite obsessive about not getting sun on my face and at 51 I have hardly any wrinkles! I use Elemis liquid layer sun block ( factor 30) and always wear a wide brimmed hat during the day. I use it the sun block all through the summer, not just on holiday.

At night normal foundation required as skin will be the same colour as when I left home

Boring but it works

Ok folks - I bought...

Olay tinted moisturiser new thing in medium - very nice

Bourjois mini creme blush - shade 06

Bourjois lipgloss 3D cosmic - shade 23

Bourjois mini nail polish - sunset rio

My holiday evenings will be a bit more glam!
