Switzerland calling
Hello Everyone, Despite having had my three girls for 18 months now , this is my first time on the forum. I have a couple of questions about my Eglu Cube and hope you will be able to help me. Mine seems to leak (especially when it rains a lot) around the nesting box door, meaning soggy straw for my delicate girls. I have also had problems this winter with ice....the cleaning trays have been totally frozen into the Cube and I couldn't get them out to clean them. Clearly more water getting in somehow. I have read about tarpaulins over the top of Eglus...is this why I wonder! Does anyone else have a leaky Cube and, if so, what have you done to cure the problem? Many thanks for any help, Sarah Snowy Flora Number
Christian
Hello Sarah and welcome to the forum. Might I suggest you email James@omlet.co.uk for advice? The tarps over the eglu is to do with covering over the run to prevent bedding going soggy I think
Switzerland calling
Thanks, Christian. I'll email James. Good to know what the tarps are for, at least!!
Plum
If you have had it a while, I wonder if you have leaves blocking the drainage channels
Falkor
If you have had it a while, I wonder if you have leaves blocking the drainage channels Very good point Plum! I was having issues with a frozen poo tray and when i took my cube back off yesterday to do my full clean I discovered lots of next doors tree blocking the channels All cleaned out now and even with all the snow and rain of today I am happy to report no water under the poop tray (who knew this time two years ago that I would be telling people that I had a dry poop tray! )
Switzerland calling
Thanks to you both. I will double check....with the help of a teenage son, I do dismantle and clean the Eglu completely once a year (amazing the muck that collects in grooves!). Redwing
Perhaps a small slip of wood nder a corner of the cube just to angle it slightly may work, jst to ensure the water runs off and not in, could it already be slanted so the rain runs in? veggiemad
hi. i have had the same problem- not soo much the nest box, but the droppings trays have been freezing solid- found out that mine is on a very slight slope and this is letting the rain water in which then freezes. Roll on my WIR!!!
Switzerland calling
Thanks Tasha and Veggiemad. It is a lovely sunny day here so I am off to check out the state of the guttering and make sure that the Eglu is angled correctly for water to run out and not stay underneath dropping trays and freeze!!
