Seagazer
I get this too, especially now my YS has started secondary school. Everyone keeps asking what I'm going to do. Hubby and I were talking about it last week and even though he's redundant at the moment he still thinks that I should only get a part time job if I want to. I'd probably like to have a part time job but the last time I tried it 6 years ago it was so stressfull, "Ooops, word censored!"ody was happy. I know the kids are all older and one is away at uni so I'm not needed as much. The flip side is that I've not worked in an office for 22 years since having my DD and the thought scares me witless. I've taken computer courses but think I probably need a confidence course to get me out there. One Christmas present my MIL bought me after I'd had my youngest was a 'work' blouse for when I decided to go back. I think she was hinting Before my hubby was made redundant he had a job that meant he worked very long hours and often spent most of the week away. I really feel that the kids needed one of us to be there all the time. My sister has always worked whilst having her two children, it suits her, she doesn't like being home with them all the time. Everyones different.

fluffyknickers
You HAVE to wear the 'work' blouse next time she comes to visit and say "oh I am at WORk today".
Busybird
Chucky Mama wrote How about a few of us come round too....it would be fun....promise It would be a lot more fun for me than it is likely to be The work blouse 'gift' struck a chord. For Christmas last year my MIL bought me 'control' pants - real Bridget Jones style white monsters Her gifts to me over the years have been of a type that I have to remind the children that it is rude not to thank someone for a gift even if it isn't exactly what was wanted - and to make them swear not to laugh when I open said gifts

I would actually spend any free time that I had thinking of ways to wind her up, she sounds totally outrageous She sounds like the mother out of Everybody Loves Raymond. Does OH stick up for you? fluffyknickers
Having recently read Georges Marvelous Medicine to my son she reminds me of the granny! Maybe you could concoct some potion for her next time she comes. Or give her back every present she got you and say "as you seemed to like these so much I got you the same". Cooks
hmmmm thats all very well but then they will feel you agree with them. I personally (and this is me) would feel the need to tell them exactly how I felt and expect hubby to back me up, if he didn't I would flip my lid at him... which means get angry... The trouble is with people like that is that when you do finally flip they look all horrified and suprised and say 'oooh what's wrong with her' I would put ex lax in her portion of chocolate cake.
