Been let down by the farm

Recommended Posts

We ordered a hatching pack to have in class so that the children could hatch chicks and we could watch them grow etc, and learn about the resposibilities of looking after animals and esp baby animals etc etc

Well we got a call today that the farm isnt able to supply us with a incubator etc, having the tell the children that they wernt getting their eggs to hatch was actually quite heart breaking as they were really looking frward to it, we had written chick rules to look after them, have put in so much effort teaching them all about the process etc to be let down :( i was pretty disappointed myself, was really looking forward to hatching some babies

sooooo..... on the way home i thought.... maybe someone on here might have an incubator we could borrow to hatch some eggies out and return it after. The chicks would be rehome at the farm that let us down, so no worries about where to put them after, and would only be considering hatching out up to 6.

If any kind sole does have an incubator the school could borrow or rent, we all in year 3 would be very very grateful :)

What rotten luck :( , I hope they have a good reason for disappointing the children (and their teacher  ).....of course you could always incubate them yourself, tucked in your bra apparently, though how practical that would be especially if you happen to be a sports teacher jumping around all day :anxious::lol:

I hope somebody comes up with a more practical suggestion  ...have you put a message out to the parents in your school, somebody nearby may have an inccy you could borrow.

Good luck,

lol putting them in my bra i dont think would be a good idea!! PE on a tues and Games on a weds,... there could be trouble!

We found out at the end of today so will put the message out tomorrow.. the area i teach in is rather 'upper class' and i dont think they 'do' chickens (not space in the 8 bedroomed houses with the perfect gardens!!) kiddies in my class (aged 7-8) didnt know a cockeral was a boy and a hen a girl :(

There are a couple of bargain inncys on ebay at the moment too.

And they seem to hold value too so you could always buy, ues and sell on?

Our school bought one a few years ago & rented it out to other schools in the area, and any parents who wanted to use it, I think it was £30 a go........might be worth asking the question of the PTA, that's how we funded ours, and as Em has said it would probably be perfectly sellable if the school didn't want to keep it on.......

Perhaps the farm could help you out with a brooder & bits if the incy is the problem........

Where there's a will there's a way........
