Biker Betty
Hello all I have a chicken whom I sure has an enormous egg stuck. She normally lays huge eggs - i.e. one almost the size of a goose egg a while ago! Well she suddenly stopped a couple of weeks ago and at first I didn't think too much of it as my girls are not terribly reliable layers (ex batts) but when I examined her, I can feel an egg in the lower part of her abdomen. Its in a funny place between the base of her breast bone and the vent so my first question is, is that possible? I don't know enough about chicken anatomy really and am surprised to find that the internet is a poor resource for finding this out. I have thought about it being a tumour or something else but it is perfectly egg-shaped and you can almost move it around a bit. A friend who is an ex-chicken keeper double checked for me and he thinks it's an egg too. I have tried a few treatments of liquid parafin with no joy - it is a hard shell so I'm not sure extra calcium is doing much good either. Any suggestions? By the way, she is showing no signs of feeling ill whatsoever - none of the normal egg bound chicken symptoms (I've had experience of these before - with her actually). For the moment, whilst she appears to be in no pain or discomfort, I am just letting nature take its course but I just thought somebody may be able to suggest something? Egluntyne
Article **here** about egg binding. I'd give her a soluble calcium supplement first to help strenghten the contractions which move the egg along.

legend21
Betty has she passed the egg yet?
Biker Betty
No but its does seem to be inching very slowly closer to the vent. I reckon it'll just take a few more days. She seem absolutely fine for the timebeing though. Thanks for your interest in her!
