The Big Lunch 2010

Recommended Posts

I know this was mentioned in another thread either by Claret or Cinammon (goldfish memory! ) but I wondered if anyone else was doing it?

I've just leaflet dropped our road and the next one along, about 70 houses, we're quite community minded anyway so although most of know each other enough to wave as we drive past, I'm hopeful for a good response. :D:D

I cannot tell you how much I love this idea. I remember the Jubilee picnic in our street in 1977. This sort of thing really fosters a sense of community passion, understanding and joy. I saw a newspaper article on last year's one but I was too late to run one.

Will definitely liaise with neighbours about doing one this year. It's too exciting.

Bunting! Cake! Goodwill! Joy! And one in the eye for the day to all those :evil::evil::evil: boy (and older) racers who think they can use our road as a speed demon cut through. What's not to love? :D

We had a fabulous time and the whole street turned out - took some organising, what with getting the road closed, but we had face painitng, free plants, everyone made food and donated it, dionations of goodies from various local companies, bouncy castle, music, live perfomances, fire tender and FIREMEN doing hose demonstrations, the local bobbies pitched up and let the kiddies play with the blues and twos in their car.

That sounds fantastic! I've had a few yes's already and was planning on something similar. We're lucky that we're in a cul-de-sac so it shouldn't be a problem with our bit being blocked and theres a green in the middle. The plants sound like a good idea (hope you don't mind if I pinch that one! :D ) and am hoping for a bouncy castle if I can get donations. I'm a copper so that should be easy to get the local constabulary to turn up and one of the neighbours is a fireman (so I'll pinch THAT idea too if you don't mind!)

I'm really excited, there's so many children in our road, I don't mind if not everyone joins in, just hoping we don't get any actual objections.

Sounds great Becky - you need to apply to the local council to get the road closed off - we had the devil of a job with them, but they caved in in the end, when they realised what adverse press they'd get if they denied us.

We arranged alternative parking for the residents with a nearby leisure centre and college, it was just amazing to see the road totally empty before we put up all the tables and gazebos.
