Does anyone else watch the International Space Station as it tracks over our heads?

 

Were lucky enough at the moment to have a really clear views; last night it came over the horizon just after 7pm and then faded out after about 5 minutes. It will be right overhead on Wednesday and will come up from WSW at around 6.42pm and go straight through Orion.

Yes I often watch it. You'd be amazed how many satellites you can see. When we were in the desert in Tunisia sleeping out under the stars, DH and I would lie on our backs looking up and you could see dozens. You need a really dark sky though as some of them are quite faint. Lovely stuff

We love watching them too; the iridium flares are good and you can even see them in daylight.

 

If you get a chance to go to an Imax cinema, then try to see the space station 3d film. It's very interesting.

 

Stellarium.org is a good site; input your co-ordinates and then it will tell you which planets and stars are on view in your area in real time. Take the lappy outside and you're sorted. Phil has a telescope, but I can't get on with it as I'm very astigmatic.

 

Do it quick though as I hear that the nights will be cloudy at the end of the week.

We love watching the ISS We're lucky too in that Faringdon is known for being a good place to star gaze because it's in the middle of nowhere so the sky is very dark. It's amazing to think there are actually people up there and even better still when the space shuttle is docked with it, even more people to wonder at!

Your ears must have been burning - I only mentioned the ISS to OH a few days ago.

 

Just seen it go over - couldn't see much detail but hopefully it will be back a little closer at some point.

 

And good grief is it cold out there!
