Ain't Nobody Here
Tricky one . To be honest though, I think if it were me, I'd rather choose my chickens for myself .

Redwing
Not only that but some chooks at markets are not always healthy so I would want to doubly be sure that I saw them first
Carol U
I'd say don't do it. Get them from a reputable breeder, where you can be sure they've come from healthy stock and had the proper injections. Otherwise, you could be bringing problems to your existing hens.
legend21
He had about 130 chickens and ducks and geese, so I think he is very good at picking healthy girls, were as I have no experience and may come home with a cockrel. Jac and Rory
Neigbours got 9 chickens from Lanark market last year. 5 were Marrans and they were told there may be a cockrel among them. All 5 turned out to be cockrels! They managed to rehome 4 (to someone who shoots ) and there is one remaining which we hope they will rehome before summer!! (although he is quite stunning - will I remember that at 4 am?)
sparkysmum
Jackie, hi I agree, I wouldn't let anyone else chose my chicks My araucana & faverolle came from Fee another forum member who lives nr Motherwell (?) She has lots of contacts with breeders near her. My Pekins came from Peebles show a couple of weeks ago. There are several Scottish breeders listed in Pracical Poultry. Hope this is of some help.
