Flubanvet - how to give it

Recommended Posts

Am new chicken keeper!! Can anyone tell me how to give Flubanvet to my six chickens. They don't seem to eat an awful lot of layers pellets as a first choice and I am wondering if I can mix it in with their greens and rice, which they adore. If so, I could be sure that they are getting their medicine. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks :)

They should have it with their layers pellets as they then take it in through the day slowly

Mix it with the pellets and dont give any treats at all for the week that they are being dosed, they will eat the pellets if they dont have a choice

There are various arguments as to whether they can have the dose in one go on a grape or in porridge and lots of people do give it this way but I believe the only manufacturers written instruction of properly dosing is as above

We have a dispenser that gives the correct amount for each bird. We soak a bit of bread with each squirt. Then just select which lucky girls going first. We always get them on their own, as there used to be alot of fights for the prize....

Good luck.

:? Doesn't sound like you are using Flubenvet then, it is a powder :?

Depends what you use. Flubenvet is the only wormer which is licensed for use on poultry in UK and there is no withdrawal period. If you use meds which are not licensed for use on poultry, there is an egg withdrawal period.

If you use the herbal supplements which make the gut hostile to internal parasites, there is no egg withdrawal.

I second what is said about adding it to pellets, it's difficult if you've got more than a couple to make sure they don't drop the grape or whatever and then one will get a double dose. I mix it with pellets then they get the correct amount, heavier birds need more but eat more if you get my drift. And I happily still eat the eggs :D

I also found it dificult to work out how to know which girl had the right amount of Flubenvet so I now coat some sweetcorn with the recomended amount and as the girls love this its gone as soon as it lands and they all, it seems, get as much as each other, bingo, sorted.
