As it happened I had a bin bag full of lovely pooey woodshavings I had been bagging up for a couple of months (the smell was delightful! ) so I responded offering that. I put mine in my own compost bin but my neighbour who has an allotment mentioned that my bins will get full soon putting the poo and wood shavings in the bins...I said jokingly "thats OK, when mine are full I will put it in yours" to which she replied "feel free!". my compost is coming along real nice thanks to my girls and their bottoms Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Olly Posted March 17, 2010 Share Posted March 17, 2010 Aubiose/hemcore is fabulous stuff and it composts really well. Just put it in the compost bin as you would normally, add some kitchen waste or grass clippings when you have them, and give it a turn occasionally. When I've run out of space, I have had a whole dustbin with just poo and aubiose in, and it still rots down really well and makes wonderful compost. Produces excellant fruit/veg. Use the whole lot, not just the poo pickings. Roses and azaleas/rhododendrons (sp!) all love it too. My parents roses last year were amazing after a couple of bags of poo soak hemcore had been used for mulch! Just be careful when you use it. You can use it straight from the run, neat, but sparingly, around the base of well established large shrubs without too many problems. But for everything else, you need to put it in your compost bins, preferable with plenty of green waste, and wait for it to rot down a bit before using it in the veg plots etc. Otherwise the "fertilizer" is so strong, it will just burn the plants. I find I don't get much green waste any more, as chickens keep the grass short, and eat most other things! But I swap bags of Hemcore for bags of Grass Cuttings with my parents during the year - a win win situation Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I often give the eggs away but the poo.... no chance! not never I have 4 compost bins at home and another 4 massive ones at the lotty. Last years onions were like space-hoppers! Kev. I have ended up having to put it in our brown waste bin for the council..... i have no more room for any more compost bins as the chicksn take up so much room.
