Lesley-Jean
Has anyone heard about this: In April 2007 Brighton Animal Action has been given permission to spend 6 days legally liberating 13,500 chickens. At the end of day 6 the slaughter vans will arrive. They need homes, boxes, drivers and vehicles. http://www.brightonanimalaction.org/Legal%20Liberations.htm
Looney
I'm surprised they haven't joined forces with the BHWT, surely they would have more luck tapping into a well established network of contacts.....
Guest
Do you know which days in April L-J? So far they have got homes for 4000. But they would like another 9000!

Martin B
It has indeed and it's been hugely criticised. People are saying it's a waste of time because the organisation haven't planned it well and don't know what they are doing.

I suppose if this is the first we have heard about it & they havent contacted the BHWT they might struggle to rehome them all

Egluntyne
It must be a very difficult operation to co-ordinate. If they only rescue thirty chickens it is still worth doing.
buffie
Just to let you know these are free range hens not battery hens, I am sure their intentions are good but this does mean that hens in cages remain in cages, diluting BHWT work and focussing on a system that is not in question, as far as I am concerned. Re homers are not being checked and believe me people will sell on birds and anything can happen. I personally would not get involved. Lera
Hi Buffie I don't understand why you say it means that hens in cages remain in cages? These are hens that are due for slaughter as far as the farm system is concerned, just like the hens that the Battery Hen Welfare Trust takes on. Neither organisation is reducing the number of caged hens, except through the indirect routes of helping people to think about the farming system, and increasing the number of chicken-keepers who don't need to buy farm eggs. I don't know anything about the Brighton group, but I'm happy to see healthy animals reprieved from slaughter. cheers Lera
