Eggquisite
Hi, Pootle our Orp has been laying eggs with very thin shells recently so to try & address this we increased the intake of minerals. Yhey always have grit available & they are wormed regularly. Yesterday we found a softy in the middle of the garden without a doubt we are very sure this has come from Pootle to. We cleaned her vent & feathers last weekend but once again her feathers are dirty. She seems perfectly ok in her self, she's currently sitting in the nesting box which she does most mornings for a while but doesn't always lay an egg. Does anyone have any ideas? Should we take her to the vet? Many thanks, Liz
The Dogmother
Firstly a couple of questions... When was she last wormed? How old is she? It may just be a shell gland malfunction, but I'd recommend adding some Limestone Flour to her feed, by drizzling the pellets with a wee bit of Cod Liver Oil (the vit D will help her to metabolise the calcium) before stirring the limestone in. A good quality poultry tonic in the water wouldn't go amiss either.
