my garden stinks!!!!

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I should have said  I sprinkle and then dig :) although last night when it was tipping down I just sprinkled some garden lime around on the outside area. I get garden lime from B & Q but could only get Stalosan online. I had superb service from Flytes So Fancy I also bought a huge tub of diatom and a few other bits and bobs to make it worthwhile. There's also Bio Dri (?) and Virkon disinfectants. HTH :)

What kind of set up do you have? Do your girls have a run? Is it covered?

The weather has been torrential here for the past week and I've completely covered my run in tarpaulin, I use aubiose in the run on the floor and it's lovely and dry inside. :D

Stalosan F does work, I use it under the aubiose to "freshen things up"

I am having this problem and doesnt help our garden is clay soil and so doesnt drain well. If we put garden lime down on the areas where it is smelling is it safe for our 2 chickens to free range over it? Does this get rid of the smell or would i need to sprinkle Stalosan too?

I need to get this sorted before our neighbours start to complain.

I was going to say the same but just to add if there is food and poo on the surface it may be worth taking that layer off first.

My friends run stank and when I looked after them I s"Ooops, word censored!"ed the surface and put stalosan down and raked in and it was 100% better straight away. :D

Hi, I also have clay soil and tackle the problem of smells from a few different directions, firstly poo picking, which have to do because of the dogs, my old staffy made herself quite ill, garden lime is brilliant and I use bio dry but only in the run but mine also have bokashi bran added to their food and a weekly fresh garlic clove in the glug, last summer I also used citronella as an air freshener and insect repellant but haven't had to as there has been little or no smells during the winter. I wonder if while your digging in the lime, it might be helpful to add sand to the soil to improve drainage,

Regards Theresa
