Farmgate layers pellets

Recommended Posts

Taylors at Wingfield supply all grain to various outlets, not sure if they cover Nottingham. You can also buy small quantities rather than a sack. :D

Oh no!

I've just started a 20kg bag of growers pellets, because the people at the agricultural supplies shop sold it to me as cheaper than the other makes. :(

What I really wanted was the organic pellets but they didn't have them in growers.

I have to say, it's the same make as the breeder was feeding them, judging by the number of empty sacks around his farm. The girls are eating it happily...but after reading all the posts here, that doesn't give me any comfort. :vom:

My girls are doing fine on Farmgate layers pellets and I haven't found any nasty bits and pieces in amongst the pellets! My nearest pet shop only stocks that brand so I use it for convenience but I have to say they have been fine.

I give my chooks plenty of greens, which I believe is what makes the yolks nice and golden (which mine are :D )

Gosh. I'm surprised. I have been using this product for the last couple of months as my old supplier has gone bust, and it is all I can get locally. I have never found a foreign body in it, my hens wolf the pellets down, are laying well, are well feathered, and the yolks are lovely and golden.

I am one of those hard hearted hen keepers who does not overdo it with treats, in fact they get very little apart from greens, and the hens are happy enough.

Interesting topic - I've been away from this forum for a while as just mega busy but logged on today & coincidently its the day that I bought my first ever bag of Farmgate pellets. There isn't really a huge choice of places to get chicken feed here, except at about £6 for a 5kg bag of Feathers & Beaky (which they do love & get through in record time). I didn't notice any 'odd things' sticking out but I did notice the smell & thought it was a bit odd.

Will investigate & report back lol !

I have always used farmgate layers pellets for the 3 1/2 years I have kept chickens and I've always been happy with them. I've never noticed any plastic or other foreign bodies or mould in them and the chickens have always eaten them happily and are in fine condition :) If anything they are the freshest stuff you can get at my local supplier (I work there), as we get about 20 bags delivered from farmgate 2 or 3 times a week and they are sold out by the time the next delivery comes in, whereas the other brands can sit there for a couple of weeks before selling.

We are currently using a bag of layers pellets from the small holder range (sold out of farmgate before we had to go on holiday and needed a new bag for the chicken sitters to use), and I agree, they definitely smell better. However the chickens are acting no differently towards them, so for the sake of the smell I can't really justify the extra £2.50, especially when I am not footing the bill.
