kirbyhouse
Hi All, After losing our lovely Patty this week I really want to disinfect the eglu with something I can scrub, preferably in water. Usually I use a mild spray that I also use for the rabbits and guinea pigs. I have used that this weekend but there is a small amount of blood spattered inside the eglu and I just want to give my girls the best chance. We are still waiting for the PM results and have Selma in quarantine - so far so good - not sure she likes having anti-biotics squirted down her beak! Any ideas? Thanks Sal
bronze
I use tea tree Hope the results are good for Selma
Sheilaz
I use Ecover washing up liquid in very hot water for a good scrub, then rinse. Then you could use the diluted tea tree or other (weak Milton fluid?) for a final wipe. That'll be lovely for Selma.
Snowy
If you are worried about preventing further infections, you can buy Virkon from the Domestic Fowl Trust. It's a virucidal and will definitely kill any blood borne viruses (it's also used in hospitals). You can probably get it from other places too, but here is the DFT link. http://www.domesticfowltrust.co.uk/deodorise1.html
The Dogmother
I use Stalosan F powder in my eglu, from the great Terry Beebe at Regency Poultry. It's fab and a broad spectrum disinfectant.

Hockeyaholic
Can these products be used in eglus with rabbits in too - its just no matter how much I scrub with the spray I've got I've noticed that my eglu is starting to get sort of speckled. The hutch is cleaned regularly & I'm not sure what else I can do...
The Dogmother
I use Stalosan in my bunnies hutch and Rablu, it suits them fine. The eglu/rablu does tend to get speckled with age - it's due to teeny pores in the plastic - give it a jet wash every now and then and it'll look like new
