Unusual places to lay

Recommended Posts

Hi All

This is just abit of curiosity, but i was wondering where the most unusual place that your chickens like to or has laid.

I ask this because my ex-batt Tikka likes to lay in the washing machine after I've put something in there for her to get comfy on, my other girls are good and lay where they should. I've found one under my garden bench before and a couple in the sand bird bath container, but that was when they started laying after the transition from being rescued and getting their feathers back and knowing where they are meant to lay. Tikka will lay in the nest boxes if she can't get in the house and in my washing machine!

Washing basket, under bushes, behind the computer screen, in the garage on a shelf, on top of a box on a very high shelf, ontop of the freezer where they roll off and break, on the branch of a tree (not wise) under an upside down wheel barrow. Thats just two very crazy girls, most of mine lay under the same bush. Hardly ever in the nest box, maybe when the weather is really bad they will go in the shed and lay in the box.

My cleverest girl is about a week off working out the catflap. In the last few weeks she's got as far as pecking at it, and now has got as far as pushing it open, but hasn't quite worked out how to get in once she's pushed it open. It's only a matter of time, since today she worked out that if I've been in and out of the shed, she can push the door open, plant a proprietary poo in the middle of the floor and then head for the buckets of food.
