First pips!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Some of the pekins have started pipping! :D The buff orpingtons arent expected to hatch until sunday so would it be too long for the pekin chicks to stay in the incy whilst waiting for the orps to be ready to go in the brooder? or should I put the pekins in the brooder as soon as they're fluffy and then put the orps in later? I know that they can live without food etc for 48 hours, but im just worried that they might get dehydrated.

Thanks

Scarlett

I was just going to say the same as Egluntyne. I had one pekin hatch yesterday and it was ravenous. It ate far more than any of the others have. I know that they say that they can survive without food and water for a while but I think this little one would have started eating itself if I hadn't put it in the brooder with food. It hasn't stopped.

:D
