Lewis
Eglu Will you be able to free range them? Do you plan on adding a few more in the future?
Stevie
Plastic!!! For me,the original Eglu is still my favourite coop and looks best in orange!
chuckmum6
Eglu or Cube of course (this is the Omlet forum)! I have kept chickens in all sorts of housing over the years (from converted sideboard to bespoke) and my cube is definitely the best! It is simplicity itself to keep clean, very well designed for both chickens and owners and holds on to it value (because it is so good), I can't comment on the Eglu - but I would imagine it is the same and lots of people love them too. Go plastic - it is soooo easy!
Ain't Nobody Here
You can't go wrong with an Eglu . Looks good, so easy to clean, no maintenance and high re-sale value (for when you upgrade to a cube ). If you have it within a walk in run, you can raise it off the ground very easily (see my signature link). Welcome to the forum, by the way, and congratulations on your new arrivals (better get to the Omlet shop quick before they arrive ). Ask if they have any reconditioned eglus, they are slightly cheaper. Mine was pristine and you couldn't have told it was reconditioned. All the extras, run etc, are brand new. Redwing
Welcome to the forum Someone asked the same question recently, here is the thread as it may help - I have outlined the main considerations on wooden coops viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61116
sadietoo
Just wanted to add if you do decide on plastic don't forget to look on the Eglus and Cubes For Sale thread on the forum if you are thinking about second hand. I vote plastic too (eglu owner)...when I was looking for housing for my chooks, it was freezing cold and wet...at one of the places selling wooden coops for nearly as much money I couldn't even get the door open it was so swollen and wet...I know there are better designed wooden coops out there..but really the eglu is sooo easy to keep clean. I would second ANH's advice about a walk in run too...that's my only bugbear with the eglu, if you can't move it about you have to be a bit of a contortionist to clean out the run
