Good luck Grant. Please bear in mind though that whilst surgery may be an option recovery from the anaesthetic and the stress involved is often an issue. Many don't survive, you need to think of this when you make take your next step. I don't want to be too damning of her prospects but you need to go on with your eyes open.

Ok so the vet took her away for a few hours and tidied her up cut the dead tissue away and put a stitch in and she looks a million times better it cost me £86 but she worth it! lets just hope it stays that way as she not really out of the woods yet.

Vet says she swollen inside and next egg could cause problems whilst she so swollen. she also has a tube up her vent which i have to continuosly flush through with antiseptic mixed in water just to keep the area as clean as possible so not to cause infection.

Poor we thing! im also not convinced that she is actually eating very much.

Again its awaiting game and plenty of baths and flushing of the vent, fingers crossed.

I think that that's a bit unfair Poet. It would have taken a vet and nurse at least an hour to sort her out. Bear in mind that she will have had a consultation, full general anaesthetic - particularly difficult in birds, sterile surgical procedure, antibiotics, carefully monitored recovery involving qualified nursing care. Your vet has compasionately undercharged you and will have done this at considerable loss. You would pay more that that to call out a plumber who would then charge about £50+ per hour.

£86? Sorry, but sounds like a bargain to me

 

My last consultation for sour crop cost £50 for the appointment fee, injectable antibs and tablets. Wouldn't begrudge a penny to be honest.

 

FIngers crossed she makes a full recovery.

An update....

Penny has fully recovered and back with the flock i am so happy with her she a defianate fighter, she got reintroduced last night and this morning she throwing her weight around reminding them all she is still top chook

She still not laid yet since the prolapse but then again if i went through much stress with one egg id def think twice about doing another.

That's great news, I had one who went through similar to yours with the duct needing breaking to deliver the egg and all the trauma afterwards and went on to lay beautiful eggs every day. All fingers crossed for her when she starts again.
