....cotton cashmere yarn but it's been discontinued!

 

I've had a cardi 'on the go' for about 2 years now and, after much nagging from my elderly mother, I finally decided to get on and finish it - only to discover that I'm running out of wool! At this rate, it will be a cardi with one and a half sleeves and I really can't bear to unpick it all and try to do something else. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find a single ball of this beautiful lilac yarn (15033) somewhere - anywhere?

Have you checked on ebay? that's where I usually look if I need something that's been discontinued

If all else fails could you make the garment with slightly shorter sleeves? Did you do a tension square-if you did you could unpick it and use the yarn from that.

Thanks to you all, I have now discovered the joy of Ravelry (I may never get off the internet now!) but, as Richard couldn't cope with the idea of me having to get a ball of wool from the other side of the world (only people from Australia and the US seemed to be in possession of this yarn) he trawled the net (as if I hadn't already done that) and actually managed to find someone in Hampshire with a single ball for sale!!

 

I've just sent off my cash and look forward to receiving the yarn I need to finish my cardi!!

PS ubereglu - I'm already making the sleeves shorter (good thing I'm petite) and have used up the tension square too!

Glad you found some. Just for info I read about a website that matches you up with spare yarn - its called www.oddballs.org.uk. I haven't tried it but might be worth remembering!

Well, the wool arrived today.....and it's not just the same shade, but it's even the same dye lot! Since I live in Kent and the kind lady who sent it to me lives in Hampshire I'm thinking that's quite a coincidence.

 

So now I'm about to finally finish my cardi and I'm so excited! I'll try and post a pic on here if I do actually finish it.

How long have you been knitting it for? My last cardi took me 3 and a half years, and I knitted a jumper for my OH once and ended up with 3 sleeves because I had taken so long doing it that I forgotten that I already done one sleeve

I've still got an unfinished grey school jumber ( size 9 years). The son I was knitting for is now about to be 33..... He's just married so maybe a grandson may come along - in about 10/11/12 years.... Is this a record??

Well, I have to confess this isn't my longest-running project, surprisingly enough. I still have an unfinished tiny aran jumper aged 6-9 months that I was making for my son who is now 22. My sister used to joke that with the speed of my knitting, I would be the only parent sending her offspring to University wearing a matinee jacket and she may have been right, if I only finished anything!
