Charlottechicken
I bought a bag of ten watches off ebay for less than £18, sold some on and kept three, all wind up ones. One is a tiny 22 jewel gold colour cocktail watch, looks 1930's, one is a 1960's gold colour bark effect cocktail watch and the third is a plain but functional Korean made watch which I put a black leather strap on and wear every day. It keeps great time too! Now I want a wind up mantle clock, but new ones are expensive so I may save up and treat myself
The Dogmother
My aunt has just given me two such clocks claire - family pieces that would have been mine eventually, but she decided that I might as well enjoy them now instead of them gathering dust in her cupboard. One of them chimes, but the bongs were so loud (melodious though) that I stopped winding them up. Both keep good time. The top one is French and used to belong to my uncle's family Excuse the wonky angle of the 2nd one. It was given to my aunt when she got married. Both need a bit of a clean and polish, and I need to decide where to place the 2nd clock - it doesn't really go with anything in the downstairs. Space Chick
We have the clock that Phils Grandmother had as a wedding present, it doesn't go with anything either but we love it
Charlottechicken
Clare, those clocks are absolutely lovely, and the first one has such beautiful lines. I don't think I'm confident enough to buy a 2nd hand clock or timepiece, as I wouldn't know if they were working OK or not so am looking at new windy up ones. Seagazer
My Great Grandfather had a clock that bonged and it used to frighten the living daylights out of us kids when we went to his house (it was a bit of a creepy house - toilet in the garden and dark) My brother and cousin used to hide behind the settee and then when it bonged they would 'whoooo hooooo' from behind. I've never been able to have a clock like it as I think I have a phobia now
