ok maybe me worrying for nothing

Recommended Posts

I decided a couple of weeks ago to get an eglu and found one on ebay for a very good buy it now price... bargain as it included 2 ladies about a year old.

I bought it went and picked it up (the family who had them just didn't have the time to look after them), got them back home set the eglu up and let the girls settle in... 1 egg day 1.. 2 day 2 and then 2 eggs each day for the rest of the week.. then this sunday we only had 1 egg.. aqnd we have had only 1 egg each day this week..

now i can't work out if they are just taking turns or its one not laying... they both look healthy bioth eating well combs all red clucky inquisitive... running around like daft things.

so am i worrying too much that one may not be laying..

possibly moulting but not sure as dodn';t seem to be many feaethers around...antyhig else i should be looking for or doing...

most likely fussing about nothing...

TIA for any advice

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the eglu and new ladies :D .

It's not uncommon to get erratic laying (at any age, to be honest) so if you think they're happy and healthy it's just one of those things, I'm afraid :) .

If you could work out if one definitely isn't laying at all, then it might be worth finding out if they've been wormed or have any beasties.

they may just be settling in...

do you know if the previous owners wormed them at all and what with?

some of our girls lay every other day from time to time, it's not a given that you'll get an egg a day! :D

no not sure if they have been wormed... but i am still in contact... so i'll ask... i'm going to check for mites and the like this weekend.. i think its only one as laying because before when we had 2 eggs it was 1 about 65 70 grams and one about 60g .. and we do have one bertha who is bigger than frieda.. now we are just getting the one bigger egg..

as i say they seem healthy.. but being new chickeneers even though i have read all sorts of books you do get a tad worried...
