craftyhunnypie
How high does the electric hen need to be for pekin bantam chicks about 5 days old? Brooder all ready for the chicks I'm getting later, but just wanted to check how high it should be. Also, with a heat lamp, I normally use shaving & J cloth - will J cloth still be ok to use underneath the electric hen or wouldn't you bother? Thanks.. Redwing
I've just measured mine - chicks are 6 and 2 days old and the hen is set at 10cm You can go lower - about 7-8 would be fine I use J cloth and wood pellets under mine with no problems
craftyhunnypie
Thanks Redwing! Hubby's job to screw in the legs properly then now! Emma.x
Redwing
I hate those adjusting legs already I'm off out in a bit to buy a couple of Eco glow electric hens which have click in adjusting legs
Mars
I hate those adjusting legs already I'm off out in a bit to buy a couple of Eco glow electric hens which have click in adjusting legs You can remove the legs and put 4 key rings and hang it with a small chain to nails or screws then you can adjust it much easier
Redwing
Thanks Mars, I may well do that!

craftyhunnypie
They are brilliant aren't they? Much more natural. My new chickies went to bed & were up bright & early at sunrise this morning. Emma.x
Griffin
I've started hanging mine up too, much less fiddly than those horrid legs! I always have one side higher than the other so that different sized chicks can chose which height best suits them. Within days most are sleeping on top of it anyway
