Unsecure chicken perches

How can I stop Evie getting a dirty bottom ? Originally I cut the dirty feathers off, then when they regrew I gave her bottom area a little wash but her feathers still get dirty. It is mostly white poo that gets stuck to her feathers. The 2 gingernut rangers don't seem to suffer the same problem. Any ideas would be welcome or will I just need to wash her botty everyday ?

it is funny how some get dirty bums, my bluebell is dirty but my light sussex(thankfully) is pristine white!

would flies lay eggs on the dirty bit like they sometimes do to rabbits with dirty bottoms ?

Hmm I have the same problem - three clean botties, one dirty and it's the one who sleeps in the nest box (and therefore her own poo) who's the mucky one! Unfortunately, she's the light sussex hybrid

Of my 3 it is the black one with the dirty bottom. I was hoping it might magically disappear once she starts laying. Hadn't thought about the potential fly problem though. Yuk.

They might in hot weather on a very grotty botty.

I washed Evie this morning and she looks much better now - mind you she did look like she had feathers missing where they were so stuck together.

I just washed her with soapy water but then thought she might need something in particular so I went and bought her some Ecover Chamomile and Marigold washing up liquid- do you think this will be ok ?

Also how often should I wash her ?

I flyguard the bunnys bum against fly attack - do chickens get the same problem?

I must admit it must look pretty tempting to a fly , thats why I gave her a good wash.
