Hentroductions

I'm thinking of adding a frizzle to my two pekins this weekend - should I do the whole slow introduction thing, or would it be OK to bung them in together, given my two have only been living together for a week (although they were from the same breeder and presumably 'knew' each other before)? How do other people manage this if they only have an Eglu classic (and no room/money for a spare!)?

I would be prepared to do a slow introduction and then see how they get on.

We did our first introductions in an eglu run. I put the newbies in a cat carrier on bricks at one end, the oldies stayed in the eglu at the other end. I divided the run with criss crossed bamboo canes - lots of them as they can squeeze throught surprisingly small gaps

Make sure you have food and water at both ends. This is awkward at the eglu end - I took the roof off the eglu and reached through the door to top up food and water containers. I let the oldies out to free range through the egg port.

I would start by letting them free range together - supervised - and be prepared to remove the newbies to safety if there is severe pecking.

All introductions are different and you may be lucky but better to be prepared than to have an injured chook.

Good luck!

When can you let them out to free range? I haven't allowed mine out of the run yet - I assumed they'd need to get used to it being their new home for at least a couple of weeks? Also, the cat is going to go MENTAL when I do.

Using the cat carrier is a good idea - I've got some chicken wire I could use to divide the run (as I've got pekins so they could definitely squeeze through a tiny gap). Thanks!
