Fox is back - neighbours this time

Recommended Posts

My neighbour came round earlier to say the fox had been after their chickens and to check mine. Luckily mine have been in cube/eglu run all afternoon as I was working. However they were all very worried (except Honey who is poorly :( ) and on closer inspection Treacle had a cut above her beak so it may have tried to get her through the wire  Have sprayed with purple spray - most of which went on my face so I look like I have measles

Sadly it killed one of neighbours grils but they stopped it from taking her away :(

They are out in force at the moment, lots of cubs to feed :(

I back onto farm land, and the foxes have been killing the new born and young lambs, so the farmer has had a local shoot in to cull the foxes.

I know the fox is only doing what comes naturally, but I have to admit to feeling a bit relieved for my girls sake that the "problem" is being dealt with. I only let my girls free range when I am home, but I am not watching them every minute.

My son used to hunt and is a good shot - he finds it frustrating that he is not allowed to carry on when we have so many foxes now due to the hunting ban :x

He can still kill foxes...he just can't use more than two dogs to flush a fox. He can still shoot them.

Oh dear.. :(

i hate foxes, in my opinion, they need to be shot. period. :(

If we breed fat chickens that cannot fly and clip the wings of those that can so they are unable to roost in trees then we must keep them safe.

I lost three chooks to the fox but blame my own stupidity and negligence rather than the fox's natural inclination.

Not so.

There has been much research here.

Have a look at this very informative survey (one of many)

Hunting has never kept numbers down. It is a sport and nothing to do with vermin control.

My late husband used to hunt and they used to dig cubs out and rear them with the dogs so they could let them go later in the year to hunt them.

There is nothing stopping your son shooting foxes. Some farmers here do but not many and this is sheep country.

There is a world of difference between shooting a fox and running him down.
