Rabbit in Eglu in Free-ranging area??

Recommended Posts

Hi :D

Have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now...and felt a little daft posting this question but I've decided to be brave and go for it :anxious:

I have an Eglu which I was thinking of selling now that we have 10 girls...then DH came up with an idea...what about keeping our rabbit in it within the free-ranging area? Her hutch has seen better days and it would free up the area where it is currently positioned.

I would remove the summer and winter shades and use a clear shower curtain as a cover as I am concerned that she may nibble the plastic hooks and elastic...I wonder if she would damage the actual plastic of the Eglu  Whatever happens I do eventually intend to sell it to pay for the housing my girls are in now.

Do any of you have experience of this set-up?

Is it just a totally daft thing to consider?

Thank you for reading and for any opinions you leave :D

I would definitely confine Lily to the run...she would have a little more space than she has currently got in her hutch and run...I put her in another run on the grass in the Summer so she can nibble grass :D

I guess I could always power wash the Eglu and disinfect...fit it out with straw etc. and give it a go

Hi there. I was told recently at the Malvern show that rabbits shouldn't live in hen eglus as they can push a leg or two out at the back for Mr Fox. You can get a conversion base, see Omlet site. Sorry if I have misunderstood what you want to do.
