Sooo much pooping

one of our chickens (speckledy) still has some small feathers on her legs. She isnt laying yet, and i am assuming that its down to age.

 

Would the feathers indicate that she is still pretty young? we were told both hens were 20 weeks old.

The speckeldy has Marans blood in its make up, French Marans have feathered legs so I would imagine that this is a bit of a throwback and that she will always have the little feathers

she is 22 weeks old now, so should she be laying yet?

She is 'Point of lay' technically but they will lay in their own merry time

 

I'd be expecting eggs sometime in the next four weeks or so but it could be longer

 

When she is close to laying her comb and wattles will get redder and she will start to 'crouch' if you go to pick her up

I have 2 speckledies - 1 has the most amazing feathery legs, the other has none

I have a 2 year old maran with feathery legs, she may not grow out of it.

My speckledy has a few feathers on her legs. She took ages to come into lay, & doesn't lay that often, & she was bottom chook till my light sussex came along last year.

Martha, our Speckledy is a good layer and has feathery legs (which I thought a little freaky at first! ), she did seem to take a while to get going though.

My Maran has a few feathers on her legs and lays tiny eggs! Almost every day though

 

She is coming up to 3 now.

she gave us her first egg today. Only a small one, but dark and very speckledy hehe.

 

I was starting to think she was going to be a freeloader, like the cats and rabbit.

my pekin x silkie has them on her legs., shes about 30 weeks now!
