Lovely sun for us, But what about the Girls???

Recommended Posts

Well, as they are all walking around with their wings outstretched and beaks open, I wonder how you all keep your girls cool?

Ours have plenty of places to shade, and appear to 'melt' as they lie under the bush. They've lots of water/ACV, and alot of Clean fresh water. I keep soaking the bush with a hose, as they prefer to drink dripping water from the branches. I've also 'accidentally' sprayed them (don't tell them I did it on purpose) as I watered said bush.

Better enjoy it while we can, before there's a hosepipe ban :-)

one of mine has been walking round with her beak open, i was'nt sure whether she had impacted crop or it was just the heat, her crop felt abit hard so we gave her olive oil and massaged her. They have alot of shade, do you think if it was the heat the others would be walking around with their beaks open?

I gave the eglu an extra special clean today. It is on a platform inside a WIR. As soon as I started to hose out the inside, my 3 ran and stood under their rain shade! I think it is because I used a quick squirt of water to stop them pecking me. They seem to cope well with the sun alternating between stretching out in it or digging under my only remeining pampas grass.
